Democracy Now! with Amy Goodma by Cynthia and Rosa

Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente started the week with an appearance on Democracy Now with Amy Goodman.

First All-Women-of-Color Presidential Ticket in US History:
Green Party Nominee Cynthia McKinney
and Running Mate Rosa Clemente
on War, Democracy and Hip Hop

The Green Party made history last week when it nominated the first all-women-of-color presidential ticket in US history. Former Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who was the first African American woman elected to Congress in Georgia, won the Green Party's nomination last Monday. She named longtime community organizer, journalist and former director of the Hip Hop Caucus, Rosa Clemente, as her running mate earlier this month. They both join us for a wide-ranging discussion on the 2008 race, the media, the impact of the hip hop generation and more.

Listen/Watch/Read
McKinney Has Long Opposed US Use of Indiscriminant Weapons

Cynthia McKinney has staunchly opposed the use of cluster bombs by the United States for years. In 2001, McKinney used her seat in the Congress to question Pentagon leadership about the similarity between food packets and bomblets dropped on Afghanistan. General Myers only answer was to acknowledge that the deceptive similiarity was unfortunate. Ms. McKinney also opposed every military spending bills that funded the use of cluster munitions in Iraq. In 2006, when McKinney filed articles of impeachment against George W. Bush, one of her first counts against him was the military's illegal use of cluster bombs under his administration.

Glen Ford, Black Agenda Reports, Endorses Vote for McKinney

Those citizens that want to abolish the American oligarchic form of government should vote for the Green Party, and put Cynthia McKinney at the head of the ticket. That's the very least one can do; the real task is to create multiple people's movements that will force an end to imperial warfare - a prerequisite for all the other tasks that face humanity. But opposition to oligarchy operates in a state of invisibility in America. Corporate media, through whose bizarre, distorted lenses most people view their nation and world, can make the opposition disappear, in an instant. Remember Dennis Kucinich? Most people don't, thanks to private media corporations that stage-manage and slick-package cosmetic versions of U.S. public discourse and call it "democracy."
