Green Party Caucus Prefers Cynthia McKinney for President

while Tuesday night meant Republican John McCain secured his party's presidential nomination and the two Democrats duked it out for delegates in Ohio and Texas, locally it meant an opportunity for the Green Party of Minnesota to throw its hat into the presidential race.

About 20 people turned out for the party's Minnesota caucus on Tuesday night at Van Cleve Recreation Center. Straw poll results at that caucus show Cynthia McKinney won the contest handily, claiming 13 of 17 voters.

Perennial presidential hopeful Ralph Nader received one vote according to the poll, but he has said he doesn't want the party's nomination.

There will be a party convention June 7 and 8.

5 Down, 15 to Go!

Since the January report released last week, two more states have raised their first $5k in qualifying contributions. Our appreciation goes out to *New York and *Texas which surmounted the $5k threshold to put their state on our list of twenty states supporting our efforts to qualify for Federal Matching Funds: for Cynthia McKinney. They join California, Oregon and Illinois, who made the January report.

We want to express our appreciation to the following states whose residents have already given $1,000 or more and are on their way towards that goal: *D.C. ($2.7k), Florida ($1.2k), *Massachusettes ($1k), *Michigan ($1.7k), *Minnesota ($2.7k), Oklahoma ($1k), *Washington ($2.6k) and Wisconsin ($1.6k). (Unaudited figures current through February 29th, 2008; * indicates change since last month).
