Cynthia speaks to the Fightin' Bob Festival in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Bob La Follette was one of the early 20th Century politicians known for speaking truth to power much as Cynthia McKinney is today.

"With respect to impeachment, how can Nancy Pelosi take impeachment off the table. But even more than that, I know John Conyers. I know John Conyers is a strong, proud, diginified man. How can he bend over completely and answer to Nancy Pelosi on . . . (her sentence was drowned out by applause).

"Millions of people in this ocuntry and people around the world watched as the Republican Party established a new standard for impeachment. All you got to do is have a little affair on your wife, lie about it, maybe under oath lie about it, lie about it to the people. And what happens? $40 million gets spent investigating your lie to your wife and to all of us.

"That is the standard that has been set for impeachment.

"But lying to the American people? That's all right, according to the Democrat's values. Spying on inncoent American people. That's all right, according to the Democratic values. Starting a war and killing innocent people? That's all right, according to the Democrat leaders values.

"And so instead of us getting accountable government, and instead of us even having an opposition party that acts like an opposition party, we've got complicity.

The Pastor concluded by saying to the powers that be: "I can't fit in your box; I can't be who you want me to be."

By now the Church was up on its feet, but just imagine what happened when he dropped this next wise word. He said, "Please hear me." The Church got pin drop quiet. Then, he added, "When you're hungry enough and you can't be put into anybody's box, don't apologize for being free."

. . .

The fact that you are here at the National Hip Hop Political Convention indicates to me that you don't mind being radical. You know something is deeply wrong in the communities across our country and in our world. You know that it will take the work of those who are thirsty for justice, not afraid of being called names, not afraid to appear desperate, to change the conditions in our community. Rosa and I and all of you, we blew the dust off our dreams. We're no longer typical. We refuse to give up and we refuse to quit. Thank you National Hip Hop Political Convention for standing strong and for being free. Don't ever apologize for being free.

I've been a lifelong Catholic, and I've never heard a priest deliver that kind of sermon. I took a membership card from an usher and whispered to Father Michael Pfleger that I was going to become a member of The Faith Community of Saint Sabina. Father Pfleger's sermon is posted
on Saint Sabina's website
. If you're so inclined, I encourage you to listen to it.

When was the last time you went to the altar?

Cynthia McKinney Press Conference on why she's running as Green for President in New York July 18, 2008. This is an excellent overview of her motivation to run as Green for President. "As I see the dissolution of the character and soul of our country, it is clear we the people have the power to take our country back. . . . In 2006 people voted for peace and got war . . . the voters were betrayed."
